BIOGRAPHY

The subject of my work focuses on landscapes that have been affected by technology. This may refer to physical alteration of a landscape, or the psychological effects of such changes. For example, my recent projects have addressed the cycles of industrialization and deindustrialization in Canada’s oil patch, the impact of Internet-based research on wilderness recreation, and the subtle technologies used to survey the Canada/U.S. border. While my medium is principally photography, I acknowledge its limits in articulating the experiences of being in a landscape. Therefore, I often incorporate other media such as video into my research in order to provide the viewer with a more holistic perspective.

I have exhibited in solo and group contexts, including Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal, Oslo8 contemporary photography in Basel, Gallery 400 in Chicago, The Judith and Norman Alix Art Gallery in Sarnia, TRUCK Contemporary Art in Calgary, and The Ryerson Image Centre in Toronto. My work has appeared in publications including Artpress, Ciel Variable, ARTnews, and Canadian Art. Born in Winnipeg, and having lived in Montreal for twelve years, I now live in Kelowna and teach photography at the University of British Columbia.
